In showcasing the awards, we aim to identify role models who will serve as mentors to young African Australians; inspire and motivate African community members to utilise the vast opportunities available to them; and promote Australia as a multicultural society where all ethnic groups have a 'fair go' for opportunities and positions. Therefore, the aim of Celebration of African Australians Inc ("Celebrate") is to celebrate, appreciate and showcase the contributions of African Australians to our collective growth and prosperity. This is a flow-on from the United Nation’s proclamation of 2011 as the International Year for People of African Descent.
TESTIMONIALS AND COMMENDATIONS
The Honourable Tony Abbott, Immediate Prime Minister of Australia (whilst Leader of the Opposition in 2013):
"I am pleased to congratulate those receiving an award in this year’s Celebration of African Australians National Awards.
The awards recognise the contribution Australians of African heritage have made to our country. I congratulate those being honoured this year for their achievements in many different fields. I also pay tribute to the efforts of all African Australians. Since 1788, Australia has been an immigrant society. Successive waves of newcomers eager for a better life, including many Africans, have enriched our culture and added a heroic dimension to our national story.
Please accept my best wishes for the Celebration of African Australians National Awards this year. I am sure it will be another great event.
Commendation addressed to National Chair & Convener Celebration of African Australians Inc-John Nze-Betram:
